What is Resort Wear?

Resort wear appropriate for men and women are ‘country club’ type clothing. Since the invitation is for dinner, then evening resort attire for men would be nice slacks, polo shirts, button down shirts, nice shoes or sandals, with the option of wearing a sport coat. For women: nice pants, skorts, skirts, nice top, casual dress, sundress, nice sandals or casual shoes. The length of the skirt or dress is knee length or longer.

Women's Evening Resort Casual

  • Ladies evening resort casual wear should be fashionable and elegant. Denim material and jeans are absolutely prohibited, as are T-shirts. Blouses, collared shirts and tops are appropriate, as are jackets. A classy summer dress, skirt or slacks is recommended in coordinating colors or patterns. Footwear should be slightly less casual than a daytime choice and, though formal is not required, a dressier shoe can make a resort casual outfit look glamorous. Add a full set of jewelry and accessories, like scarves, to complete the look.

Women's Clothing

  • Women have several options when dressing to fit the resort casual dress code. A clean and pressed blouse can be paired with a nice pair of pants or a skirt. Neutrals such as black, gray, navy, brown and khaki are the most acceptable colors for pants. Skirts should be no higher than knee-length. Bold colors and prints are fine as long as they coordinate nicely with the rest of the ensemble. A casual dress or sundress is also a popular choice, as long as the dress is tasteful--not too short or low-cut.

Women's Footwear

  • Dress pumps or another pair of nice heels are typically the footwear of choice. Dress sandals are also acceptable, especially while on vacation and in the summer months.

Women's Accessories

  • Within the resort casual dress code, women are free to be more creative with their accessories. However, do not allow the accessories to "take over." For example, piling on chunky necklaces will distract from the rest of the outfit. All elements of the ensemble should complement the others and work together.

Men's Evening Resort Casual

  • For evening, men's resort casual dress is often a day outfit transitioned. Adding a jacket to the look and changing from shorts to slacks can easily accomplish the outfit. Hats are not to be worn, but men's jewelry such as watches are an acceptable addition. Keep the look simple and classic, with no denim or T-shirts. White socks should never be worn in evening wear, and black socks work well with a gentleman's loafer or other dress casual shoe.

  • Men should wear a clean and pressed button-down shirt or a nice polo shirt. Paired with khakis or other quality pants, this creates a classic resort casual look. Light- and bold-colored shirts are acceptable as are subtle patterns. Jackets and sport coats are not needed.

Men's Footwear

  • A pair of loafers or other dress shoes should be worn. Nice sandals are also acceptable.

Men's Accessories

  • When accessorizing, men should keep it classic and simple. A leather belt is acceptable to wear with a tucked-in shirt. Ties are not needed for a resort casual style.

What to Avoid

  • Resort casual is a step above traditional casual wear, so some items of clothing should be absolutely avoided. Stay away from jeans, flip flops, T-shirts, short shorts, and very short skirts.
